He stood in her little garden; the long window of her parlour was open, and he could see the white curtains, with the lamplight shining through them, swaying softly to and fro in the warm night-wind. There was a sort of excitement in the idea of seeing Madame Münster again; he became aware that his heart was beating rather faster than usual. It was this that made him stop, with a half-amused surprise.

Estava de pé no jardinzinho dela; a grande janela da sala estava aberta e ele via o brilho do candeeiro através das cortinas brancas, que ondulavam brandas ao vento quente da noite. Havia uma espécie de excitação à ideia de voltar a ver Madame Münster; teve consciência de que o coração lhe batia bastante mais depressa do que o habitual. Foi isso que o fez parar, entre divertido e surpreso.
