We were suspicious of violins
and, though a magnolia tree
in Dulwich Park held out
white lilies to us, we turned
away; we hurried past
children playing on grass
and admired only mongrel dogs
with tough appetites: it was
a lonely place between splayed thighs.

EDWIN BROCK, U.K., in “Diary Entry”, 1965

Desconfiávamos de violinos
e, embora uma magnólia
em Dulwich Park nos oferecesse
lírios brancos, virávamos-lhe
as costas; passávamos a correr
pelas crianças que brincam na relva
e só admirávamos cães rafeiros
com apetites desordeiros; era
um lugar solitário entre coxas oblíquas.
